베트남전쟁에서 한국군의 대게릴라전 연구 210 군사연구 제129집 (Abstract) A Study on Counter-guerrilla Warfare of the Korean Army during the Vietnam War - Focused on the Company Tactical Base - - Jung Jee Hwan - The Afghan War and the Iraq War introduced the mighty force of the United States and their high tech conventional weapons in the beginning of wars. However, these two unfinished wars are newly emphasizing the importance of stabilization operations. The purpose of this research is to study the Korean Army counter-guerrilla warfare at the Vietnam War and figure out the principles of stabilization operations which the Korean Army has carried. The Korean Army's counter-guerrilla warfare during the Vietnam War had been formed as the concept of the Company Tactical Base. Company Tactical Base meant establishing bases as types of all-defensive posts around the villages in the units of a company. For the effective civil-military operations, General Chae, Myung Shin placed small scales of units near the civilians and separated them from the Viet Cong, protected the civilians, and earned their trusts through public aids. The company tactical base was the main factor for the success of the Korean Army's suppression operations and company tactical base's keys to success were durability, proximity, and flexibility. By establishing and stationing in company tactical base, the Korean Army could keep protect the civilians and maintained positive relationships with them by actively performing the projects for people. Also, small unit's flexible strategies reduced the damages of sudden attacks and basing on the mobility, made successful suppression operations possible in the large tactical area of responsibility.
